Answer

Dear JT:

Security and comfort are the two main issues that must be taken into consideration when handling amputees, and most full-line manufacturers offer slings especially designed for both partial and full amputees. However, with respect to selection of specific slings and procedures, you should refer to your lift manufacturer’s sling guidelines and accompanying instruction sheets. That’s because each equipment manufacturer’s slings are uniquely designed and constructed to work with the specific lift you’ve selected, and further, manufacturers do not recommend “mixing and matching” slings between different equipment. You may wish to look at some of the training videos available as well. For example, to see a brief video of a Liko amputee sling being placed under a partial amputee, click here.
